B`ESTFEST DAY TWO (July 3rd)
FRANZ FERDINAND
Franz Ferdinand was founded in Glasgow, Scotland, in 2002). The band's first smashing hit was ''Take me out'', the first single from their debut album, ''Franz Ferdinand'' (2004). The song climbed quickly in the charts, and the album's success got the band two Brit Awards in 2005. In the same year, Franz Ferdinand entered the studios once again to work on their second material, ''You Could Have It So Much Better''. Shortly after its release, the album reached the number one spot in UK's album chart. Chosen by U2 as opening act for their Vertigo Tour, Franz Ferdinand is renowned for its extremely entertaining live shows, the band being able to brag about its concerts in international festivals like Glastonbury, Roskilde, Exit, Sziget, Werchter, Benicassim, PinkPop or Coachella.
ORBITAL
For almost 20 years, ORBITAL have been considered one of the most creative electro bands at a wordwide level, having been chosen by Q Magazine one “of the 50 bands you must see before you die”. Its two founding members, Paul and Phil Hartnoll released during 1989 - 2004 7 studio albums, 4 of them reaching directly the UK Top 20 and hits such as “Chime”, “Style”, “Belfast”, “The box” or “Satan” have become genuine evergreens in the clubs` playlists. Orbital held spectacular shows in front of an audience of thousands of people on legendary festivals such as Woodstock `94 and Glastonbury (a show included by the Q Magazine in “the best 50 live shows of all times” chart).
KLAXONS
Klaxons started their career in 2005, in London and it only took them two years until they became one of the most appreciated British brit indie - dance punk bands on the international musical stage. After they performed on the stages of the most renowned international festivals, such as Glastonbury, Benicassim, Werchter, Coachella, T in the Park or Oxegen, Klaxons will also arrive this summer at Bucharest, for a sensational show at B`ESTFEST!
GABRIELLA CILMI
It was from her very childhood that Gabriella Cilmi showed a great interest for a various panel of musical styles, amongst the artists by whom she was influenced there were great names such as Nina Simone, Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, The Sweet, T.Rex and Cat Stevens. After her debut album's official release - “Lessons To Be Learned” - the single “Sweet About Me” was aired all over the world and impressively climbed almost fifty positions in the UK Singles Chart in a matter of days! Her special voice and her unique way of playing were admired by the fans and critics, drawing her the resemblance with other artists such as Amy Winehouse, Anastacia or Macy Gray. Also, her voice drew other musicians' attention: Sugababes, Nouvelle Vague and James Blunt invited Gabriella to perform aside them in their UK tours. After she previously performed at festivals such as T in the Park, V Festival or SXSW Music Conference and Festival, Gabriella Cilmi will also perform at this year B'ESTFEST's edition, on July 3rd.
ALTERNOSFERA
Alternosfera is a rock band from Chisinau, Republic of Moldova. The legacy of Alternosfera starts when two high school students without any prior musical experience decided to learn playing guitars and kill some time. The debut album, “Orasul 511”, has been released in 2005, followed by the second album, “Visători cu plumb in ochi sau ultima scrisoare pentru femeia nordică”, released in 2007. In April 2008, Alternosfera started to work on their third studio album. The first single “Flori din groapa marianelor” was released in October 2008, and the album is planned to be released in the spring of 2009. Alternosfera performed on most of Chisinau's stages, taking part in the most important rock festivals in Moldova and Romania.
AB4
Soundgarden, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Sonic Youth, as well as Blink 182 and Limp Bizkit involuntarily contributed to forming and defining AB4, as the band made their debut on the Romanian musical stage with a sober and elaborated sound, displaying a style inspired from grunge, cross-over and alternative rock. After being named “Best Romanian Act” at MTV Romanian Music Awards in 2003, AB4 continued their career with playing at various concerts, including a show at “Wan2Stage” (Sziget Festival) in 2004, and the opening-act for the Placebo concert in Bucharest, in 2006
