tilllate.com Interview: Benoit&Sergio
It's not so often you can meet Nicolas Jaar, Benoit&Sergio,
SoulClap, Valentin Stip, Footprintz and Voices of Black on the
same stage and not call it a festival. This is what happens in
Romania, in the very capital of the city, during a hot summer
evening. The Mission makes all of this possible for a night at
Arenele Romane, in Bucharest.
We are so excited and proud to present you a little interview we made with Benoit&Sergio before this outstanding event. Check it out bellow.
tilllate.com: As you come from DC, we are curious in finding out how the music-scene is there. What can you tell us about the parties in DC? What do you actually think about Berlin compared to DC?
Benoit&Sergio: DC's scene is getting big and it's fresh. We
don't like to compare places or clubs or tracks or artists,
though, because inevitably someone gets offended. Berlin is
amazing. DC is getting amazing. There are lots of university kids
there, and youth is always the best ingredient for a good scene
since it has no sense of time or of consequences. that kind of
energy in a crowd makes things interesting. DC is also a super
educated city, so you have smart kids who have good taste in
music, not dumb kids who listen to garbage.
tilllate.com: We really want to find out how did you two meet. How did it all begin?
Benoit&Sergio: It started in a rather banal way--at a bar. A
mutual friend introduced us. There isn't any weird back-story, no
tawdry details. We just liked each other. We had similar
senses of humor and similar ways of analyzing the world, of
seeing similar things that delight and instruct us.
tilllate.com: Without any doubt, your unique style of making music has built yourselves as important figures in this scene. One might even say you have this tremendous flair. How would you actually describe your work and your music?
Benoit&Sergio: We really don't know how to describe our
music. It feels like it is all over the place in terms of genre,
style, approach. So maybe we'd describe it as a strange
all-you-can-eat buffet in Cleveland, Ohio. Do they have these
kinds of buffets in Romania? All-you-can-eat buffet: pizza next
to shrimp next to salad next to roast beef next to potato
soup--all you can eat, all day for $8.
tilllate.com: Could you give us a hint about when the album you’re working on will be ready?
Benoit&Sergio: Hopefully next summer. But not before
tilllate.com: Who are the artists (DJs, producers) that you follow with interest these days?
Benoit&Sergio: The line-up at the party this weekend--Nico,
Soul Clap, Footprintz. Dyed is totally on fire. Apollonia crew.
Jamie Jones and Hot Natured crew. Visionquest crew. Wolf+Lamb
crew. Clams Casino.
tilllate.com: What do you like to listen during you spare time and how was your first contact with electronic music?
Benoit&Sergio: We listen to whatever is good. Today it has been this remix by Aril Brikha of a song called "Tough Love" by a band called Sailor and I.
tilllate.com: Is there a track for which you have a “coup de foudre” right now?
Benoit&Sergio: "Days" by The Drums.
